AboutMarcus Dycus

I'm a senior software engineer in Hot Springs, Arkansas, shipping the same careful work for a family business down the road as for a $90B bank across the country.

Most days I'm shipping at Hapax, where I'm a senior engineer on a small team building LLM-powered product surfaces for a proactive AI platform used daily by tens of thousands of people across more than twenty financial institutions, from $250M credit unions to $90B banks. The stakes make you careful.

The rest of the week I'm on my own products and with a small roster of local businesses who want more than a template. Aaron's Handyman Services is a representative example of that client work. The list stays small on purpose. Central Arkansas first, but I am open to local businesses anywhere in the US.

A custom website that holds up comes from experience more than from picking the right framework. Six years of shipping has taught me where the rough spots live across the stack and how to route around them, and that is the kind of knowing you only pick up by doing the work.

How I work

Built to be understood.

Code that the next engineer can read without a tour guide. Architecture that a product manager can explain in a meeting. Documentation that is actually written, not just planned.

Honest about tradeoffs.

Every shortcut gets named out loud. Every benchmark cites what it actually measured. When I do not know the right answer, I say so and then go find out.

Cost-conscious by default.

Free and self-built before paid tools. Interfaces that let paid services swap in later without rewrites. Respect for the budget of the company I am working for and the revenue of the customer I am building for.
